A great evangelistic opportunity
In a world that doesn’t make sense anymore, people want answers and hope. That gives the church a wonderful opportunity to tell people about the hope that we have.
Like most of our lives right now, the way we go about evangelism now needs to be a little different to before. The principle is the same: we have a message to deliver to people. We need to explain the wonder of Jesus who died and rose again, and explain to people why this matters and how they should respond. It’s harder to meet people face to face, but we can still call or video call or email. With some creativity, it is more than possible to evangelise in our current situation.
Most churches are seeing an increase in interest in things they post online. The virtual attendance at church services has generally been higher than would be seen on a normal Sunday; it would seem that attending church virtually is easier for people and a way of finding out what churches teach with less effort.
All Nations is providing some short evangelistic videos that are intended for clarifying some issues to do with Christianity and the virus; you can find them at http://www.allnations.org.au/common-questions-during-covid-19/. If you could share them with friends, or post them on social media, that would help us reach new people with the gospel in this strange time.
But, when it comes down to it, God has given you a great opportunity to speak to your friends about Jesus. Your friends and family members are likely anxious and wanting to talk about their situation and what the world will look like when this is done. If you trust in Jesus, you have something important to offer them. You can offer them hope. We trust in Jesus, the one who has all authority in heaven and on earth, and we do not need to fear the future.
Who can you call today? Perhaps the opportunity has come to move your conversations from whatever the latest sports results have been to how we will cope with the restrictions. Perhaps your concern for them will deepen your friendship and lead to further opportunities. Perhaps, in the future, many will look back with fondness at this unusual time as the time they came to know the true hope found in Jesus.
